GRACE POWER
"WEEPING WILLOW"
EP RELEASE PARTY
CUSTOM COCKTAIL MENU

On September 7, 2024, singer-songwriter Grace Power celebrated her new EP "Weeping Willow" at a release party in LA. I designed three custom cocktails, each inspired by a song from her EP.

As Grace and I are both of mixed Chinese descent, I chose ingredients spanning from East to West in crafting these bespoke beverages.

Cocktail no.1
"WILD HORSES"

bourbon • five spice • lime • ginger beer • angostura bitters

Like its namesake song, Wild Horses is bold, spirit-forward, and full of country flavor. A play on the Kentucky mule, which unites whiskey with ginger (an ingredient beloved by the Chinese), this cocktail also incorporates five spice powder — an aromatic blend of star anise, cinnamon, cloves, fennel, and Sichuan peppercorns. The five flavors are said to correspond to each of the five traditional Chinese elements.

Cocktail no.2
"WEEPING WILLOW"

gin • st. germain • mint • club soda • lemon • lime

Through gentle guitar and contemplative lyrics, the EP’s title track displays Grace at her most wistful. As a cocktail, Weeping Willow is delicate and botanical. Notes of juniper, elderflower, citrus, and mint join forces to evoke the drink’s arboreal namesake.

Cocktail no.3
"WE WERE GIRLS"

vodka • lychee • aloe vera • coconut • rose water • lemon

Lychee is a sweet fruit native to southern China. Along with aloe vera and coconut, it is one of the most popular flavors in Asia for soft drinks. The floral aromatics of rose water and the bright citrus zest of lemon elevate these tropical fruits to a realm of innocence, joy, and pure open-heartedness.
